Top Fifty Final Fantasy Characters
49. Barret Wallace, FFVII
Barret is tough as nails. Even though he sometimes looks like Mr. T, Barret is a pretty cool guy.  With a gun for a hand (and later a weird robotic hand for a hand…) he seems like he would be a very valuable asset to your party. Of course, he’s kind of overshadowed in battle by some of the other characters of FFVII… but in the real world, a giant machine gun hand would be difficult to overshadow…
Seriously, a gun hand is really cool.  How many of you have wrapped a blanket around your hand, slowly rotated your arm, made pew pew pew gun sounds, and pretended to be Barret?  I certainly have…
But his toughness isn’t the only thing I like about Barret.  Barret is kind of funny in some of the things he says.  He’s somewhat vulgar, and I like that.  Swearing is my favourite pastime.  I also adore that he is an excellent father to Marlene. I’m always a fan of a tough character who is also a good parent.  Looking at Barret, you might not expect him to be the type of person who would be a kind, gentle father figure, but that’s exactly what he is.
The description I just wrote kind of makes me want to move Barret up higher on my list… But the list is done.  No more changes.  I love you, Barret!

It’s difficult to ignore the fact that Vivi’s “grandfather,” Quan, adopted the black mage with the intent of eating him later… I always wondered if Vivi was aware of that though… Written on the wall of Quan’s dwelling is something referencing his plan to eat Vivi later after he’s grown up a bit more, but I don’t think Vivi was aware of it.
I don’t think Quan would have really eaten Vivi…  Eating someone you’ve bonded with would be pretty messed up. But I don’t know the guy…  Maybe he would have……

Top Fifty Final Fantasy Characters
50. Paine, FFX-2
Paine is likable because she makes you wonder about her.  She doesn’t say much and seems to be hiding secrets, and that’s always interesting.  Playing FFX-2, I wanted to learn more about Paine.  She’s also physically strong, and you might say sort of a “bad-ass.”  It’s always nice to have a strong character in your party, because being able to effectively kick someone’s ass is important in these games.  She sort of reminds me of a female Squall - somewhat moody, but an ass-kicker.  Their attire is also strikingly similar.
Final Fantasy X-2 needed a sort of grouchy character to contrast the overly cheerful cousins Rikku and Yuna, and Paine was created to fill that role.  Her personality is a sort of the opposite of her co-party members, and yet she still puts up with their antics and remains their friend.  Yay, Paine! You rock!

I made a list of my top fifty favourite Final Fantasy characters ever. It’s actually pretty difficult to order them… especially the top eleven or so… My list includes mostly characters from V onward, because those are the games I’ve played.  However, I haven’t played all of VI, and I think there are two characters from VI I haven’t met yet in my game, so they might have made the list if I knew them…
I also put Kain Highwind on my list because I just love how he looks, and I bet I’d like him if I played his game.  I put Ingus and Luneth on there as well, even though I haven’t played III either.  I’ve read about III and have wanted to play it for a long time.  From gifs I’ve seen and internet “articles” I’ve read, I think I love the friendship between Ingus and Luneth…
You’ll also notice I listed Reno and Rude together… Maybe that’s sort of wrong of me, but I feel they kind of have to be together in order for their characters to really demonstrate what I like about them… They also aren’t main characters, so unfortunately they only get one spot on the list between the two of them…  But hey, it makes room for one more on the list, right?   Giving Rude his own spot would bump Paine from the list entirely. :(  We wouldn’t want that.
And yes, my favourite characters in FFXIII-2 were Caius and the Red Chocobo…
For each of these fifty characters, I’m going to make a collage, because each of them is awesome and deserves to be recognized on my Final Fantasy blog. :D  I’ll probably also write a small explanation of why I like each one, along with their collage when I post it.
(I apologize for any misspellings on this list…  I know I spelled Barret and Jecht wrong…  I fixed those two, but probably spelled others wrong too… I’m an idiot when it comes to spelling.)
